Hanne Laursen

Author / Counselor

Hanne Laursen has developed a unique, interactive picture book series based on her 30 years of creative and loving interactions with elementary school students. Her books feature her proven and successful problem-solving technique: STOP, THINK, CHOOSE (STC). The concept is simple, effective and powerful.

STOP: What is the problem? Breathe
THINK: What are my options?
CHOOSE: Choose an action that is good for myself AND others.

Her books combine real life issues as experienced by her students with an engaging narrative. The series is told through the eyes of a spunky fourth grader, Luke, and his lovable and insightful dog Lucy, who always makes him feel better. Luke addresses the reader directly to facilitate dialogue with either self or with an adult. The language of the book is that of a fourth grader to make the books real and accessible.

Hanne Laursen implemented her STC concept with all her students. It was so effective and successful that it followed her elementary school students to middle and high school. Parents even asked for it to interact with their spouses. She has successfully used picture books to teach her students social skills throughout her career as a school counselor, and she has now developed her own picture book series to teach students to develop a strong inner moral compass through her unique process of STC.

Hanne Laursen has a Master’s degree in school counseling, supplemented by hundreds of workshops on child development. She is passionate about giving children the tools to become self-reliant and socially successful contributing members of society.
